Role Overview

We are seeking a Microsoft Licensing Expert with strong technical, contractual, and analytical expertise to lead Microsoft license governance, compliance management, and optimization initiatives within a complex enterprise environment.

This role requires deep expertise in Microsoft volume licensing programs and the ability to provide forward-looking licensing strategy across renewals, true-ups, contract restructuring, and long-term cost optimization.

The ideal candidate will combine technical infrastructure understanding, contractual interpretation capability, financial analysis skills, and executive-level advisory experience.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft License Governance & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain an accurate Microsoft licensing baseline across all relevant environments.
  • Conduct entitlement vs. deployment reconciliations for Microsoft Database, Middleware, and related products.
  • Interpret and manage Microsoft licensing agreements including:
  • Enterprise Agreement (EA)
  • Server and Cloud Enrollment (SCE)
  • Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA)
  • CSP agreements
  • Identify compliance gaps, quantify exposure, and develop structured remediation plans.
  • Implement governance processes to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation.

License Optimization & Advisory

  • Manage EA true-ups, renewals, and compliance cycles.
  • Provide forward-looking recommendations on agreement restructuring, renewal strategy, and optimization models.
  • Advise on hybrid licensing, Software Assurance benefits, and license mobility rights.
  • Conduct scenario modeling and financial impact analysis to support negotiation and budgeting.
  • Identify cost-avoidance opportunities and optimization savings.

Infrastructure & Virtualization Advisory

  • Advise on licensing implications of virtualization (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware environments).
  • Assess impact of infrastructure changes, DR setups, and cloud adoption on licensing posture.
  • Support Azure governance alignment where applicable.

Reporting & Stakeholder Advisory

  • Deliver structured executive reports covering compliance status, risk exposure, optimization roadmap, and renewal planning.
  • Act as subject matter expert for IT, procurement, and finance teams.
  • Provide advisory on licensing implications of architectural and procurement decisions.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Microsoft licensing, compliance, or enterprise SAM roles.
  • Proven experience managing Microsoft Enterprise Agreements and true-up cycles.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Windows Server & CAL licensing
  • SQL Server licensing (core-based model)
  • Microsoft 365 / O365 licensing models
  • System Center, RDS, and related infrastructure licensing
  • Core-based and user-based licensing metrics
  • Experience conducting large-scale reconciliation exercises in complex IT estates.
