About the Role
Modern Visions Design Studio is seeking a Mid-Level Interior Designer with strong residential construction experience to join our design studio in Kirkland.
This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys working on thoughtful residential projects from concept through construction, and who is comfortable producing high-quality AutoCAD drawing sets, developing floor plans, and coordinating with contractors and trades during construction.
The right candidate will be detail-oriented, technically proficient, and capable of working independently, while also collaborating with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
This position reports to the Lead Designer / Project Manager and the COO.
Key Responsibilities
Design Development
- Develop space planning solutions including residential floor plans and elevations
- Create design presentations, mood boards, and renderings using Photoshop
- Assist in the selection of materials, finishes, fixtures, and millwork
Construction Documentation
- Produce detailed AutoCAD construction drawing sets, including:
- Floor plans
- Reflected ceiling plans
- Interior elevations
- Millwork drawings
- Construction details
- Maintain and update drawing sets throughout project development
- Ensure drawings clearly communicate design intent and construction requirements
Construction Coordination
- Conduct site visits and project meetings
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
- Review shop drawings and construction progress
- Assist with troubleshooting design and construction issues
- Ensure field conditions align with design documentation
Project Communication
- Communicate with clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors
- Track and organize design decisions and revisions
- Support the design team in maintaining project timelines
Required Qualifications
- 3–6+ years of professional interior design experience
- Experience working on residential construction or renovation projects
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
- Proficiency in Photoshop for mood boards, presentations, and renderings
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and documentation
- Familiarity with residential trades including:
- Carpentry and millwork
- Electrical and lighting
- Plumbing
- Drywall and finishing
- Painting and wall finishes
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Additional Requirements
- Reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel to job sites, vendor showrooms, and meetings
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects
- Comfortable collaborating with clients and construction professionals
Portfolio Requirements
To be considered, applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating both design and technical work.
Your portfolio should include:
1. Floor Plans
- Examples of residential space planning
- Renovation or remodeling layouts preferred
2. Construction Drawings
- AutoCAD drawings such as:
- Interior elevations
- Millwork drawings
- Kitchen or bathroom details
- Reflected ceiling plans
3. Design Work
- Mood boards or design presentations
- Renderings or visualizations (Photoshop or similar)
4. Built Work (if available)
- Before-and-after images of completed projects
- Documentation showing how drawings translated to built results

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
