Mid-Level Java Engineer

Company Overview: We are a long-standing research platform that has been operating for nearly 20 years and is widely used within the Academic Development Economics field. We are focused on building new features on top of an established codebase while contributing to the evolution of AI-powered capabilities within the platform.

Job Description & Responsibilities: We are looking for a dedicated engineer to develop and maintain backend systems built on legacy Java stacks. You will be responsible for:

• Designing, deploying, and debugging applications running on the JVM.
• Building new features on top of existing legacy architecture.
• Working directly with vanilla JavaScript for frontend interactions.
• Contributing to testing and integrating AI-powered platform capabilities.
• Participating fully in team rituals, stand-ups, and cross-functional discussions.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

• Experience Level: Minimum mid-level engineer. Maximum experience is preferred to succeed in the three-interview process.
• Backend Expertise: Strong expertise in JVM is non-negotiable. Must have a deep understanding of JVM internals, memory management, garbage collection, and object pooling. Proven experience working on legacy Java stacks is required.
• Frontend Skills: Strong proficiency in vanilla JavaScript with direct DOM manipulation experience. We do not rely on frameworks (no jQuery, no modern templating frameworks).
• Tools: Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and IDEs such as Cursor or Claude Code.
• Communication: Strong English proficiency is required to handle complex discussions involving abstract reasoning.
• Availability: Must overlap at least 4-6 hours with team members across Greece, Colombia, Brazil, and Morocco.

Location: Hybrid (near Ichhra Police Station, Lahore, 54000).

Salary Range: $1500 - $2000 USD per month (Depending on experience level).
