Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle School ELA (English Language Arts) Teacher to inspire students in grades six through eight to develop their literacy, critical thinking, and creative expression skills. Responsibilities
- Design engaging and comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, incorporating diverse instructional strategies and learning technologies to meet varied student needs.
- Deliver compelling lessons in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature, utilizing AP style and Chicago Manual of Style guidelines for instruction and student work.
- Develop and implement assessments that measure student progress, including standardized tests and formative evaluations, providing timely feedback to support growth.
- Mentor students individually and in groups, fostering a supportive environment that promotes literacy education, research skills, and creative writing.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional design, and integrating library services to enrich the learning experience.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive behavior management techniques and classroom management strategies to create an organized learning environment.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to linguistics, instructional best practices, special education accommodations, Montessori methods (if applicable), and higher education teaching techniques.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications in education are preferred.
- Proven classroom experience teaching middle school students with strong classroom management skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in literacy education, lesson planning, curriculum development, and instructional design.
- Proficiency with learning technology tools such as educational software, digital assessment platforms, and online research resources.
- Knowledge of AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, proofreading techniques, copy editing skills, and journalistic principles.
- Experience working with diverse student populations including those requiring special education accommodations or behavioral support.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, parents, and students’ families.
- Organizational skills necessary for managing multiple classes, assessments, and extracurricular activities such as tutoring or academic advising.
- Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and private school educational standards; experience with Montessori or other specialized educational approaches is a plus.
