Position Overview:
The Middle School & High School Design and Innovation Technician is responsible for
managing the technical operations of the Center for Design and Innovation for Public Purpose
(CDIPP). They will work with teachers in the Middle School and High School divisions to support
the classroom and activities as required, ensuring the safety of our students and learning
spaces. The specialist must be agile, willing to learn emerging technologies, and capable of
guiding students through the design thinking process
Primary Responsibilities:
- Help students refine design ideas and plans to ensure they align with the CDIPP
mandate for public purpose, impact, and material performance.
- Assist students and teachers in utilizing equipment, executing design prints, and
managing the end-to-end print request workflow.
- Teach students how to safely use equipment, basic hand tools, woodwork equipment,
and electronics (circuits and components) for their projects.
- Provide technical support for design and slicing software, including Lightburn, Fusion
360, Tinkercad, Inkscape, and Photoshop, and supervision of the Director of CDIPP
Department Chair and the Design and Innovation teachers.
- Assist with department and CDIPP event planning (Example: Design Expo) and field
trips planning
- Assist and support with ordering, serving and replacement of supplies and materials
Inventory management, maintain supplies, equipment, and materials in support of
educational programs.
- Liaise and communicate with vendors and service providers for program equipment
repair and supply needs.
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned
- Participate in the planning, implementation and execution of successful student
programs such as Advisory, Pursuits and Week Without Walls, including chaperoning
related trips and activities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to operate and calibrate specific equipment including BRM and Boxford laser
cutters, and Ultimaker, Bambu Lab, Prusa, and Creality 3D printers.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM and vector design software such as Lightburn, Fusion 360,
Tinkercad, Inkscape, AutoCAD, and Photoshop.
- Hands-on skills in basic woodwork, fabrication, soldering, and the use of basic hand
tools.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electromechanical equipment issues to minimize
downtime.
- Proficiency in manual sketching and rapid prototyping to help students visualize design
plans.
- Maintain detailed logs of machine usage, maintenance schedules, and technical records.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a technical diploma in a related field or equivalent
- Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
The ability to inspire children through education
Demonstrated experience in the safe use of power tools
Full understanding and support of the school's philosophy
Prior working experience in a design lab or Makerspace classroom in educational setting
preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in a related field

Terms of Employment:
This position is classified as a non-sponsored support staff position. General working hours are from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 12:45 pm (on site) & 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm (remote/flexible) on Fridays. In some cases, flexibility with work hours is requested to meet the needs of the role.
Friday is considered as a full working day for employees and the school reserves the right to schedule afternoon meetings and/or events where the employee’s presence is required. Employees should plan to be available and ready to respond to work-related requests on Friday afternoons unless an approved leave of absence has been applied for and approved through the usual and customary leave request process in advance. Any absence on a Friday will be
considered a full-day absence.
