Responsibilities

- Design engaging lesson plans that incorporate instructional design principles, learning technology tools, and differentiated strategies to support varied learning styles.
- Foster a positive classroom environment through effective behavior management, classroom organization, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Facilitate reading comprehension, literary analysis, and writing skills development aligned with standards such as AP style and the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Provide targeted support for ESL students by implementing language acquisition strategies, tutoring sessions, and literacy education techniques.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, standardized testing preparation, and ongoing feedback.
- Mentor students in their academic growth, offering guidance on research projects, creative writing assignments, and higher education planning when appropriate.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, school events, and educational administration tasks to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
- Engage in professional development opportunities related to linguistics, special education accommodations, Montessori methods (if applicable), or other relevant pedagogical approaches.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and classroom activities in accordance with school policies.
Skills
- Strong expertise in curriculum development with an emphasis on literature, creative writing, ESL instruction, and literacy education.
- Proficiency in AP style guidelines and the Chicago Manual of Style for teaching writing skills and editing student work.
- Excellent copy editing and proofreading abilities to help students refine their written assignments.
- Proven experience mentoring students across diverse backgrounds with effective classroom management techniques.
- Knowledge of journalism principles to incorporate research projects or media literacy into lessons.
- Familiarity with learning technology tools such as educational software, online resources, or virtual classroom platforms.
- Background in linguistics or language acquisition theories to enhance ESL instruction.
- Ability to teach math or integrate interdisciplinary approaches when relevant to literacy or critical thinking skills.
- Creative writing expertise to inspire original student projects and storytelling activities.
- Strong communication skills for engaging students, parents, colleagues, and administrators effectively.
- Organizational skills necessary for lesson planning, grading consistency, standardized testing preparation, and record keeping.
- Experience working with middle school students in private or public school settings; familiarity with special education accommodations is a plus.
- Knowledge of research methods relevant to education administration or library services supporting student projects.
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies for diverse learners including those requiring behavior management support or individualized education plans (IEPs).
