Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Middle School Substitute Teacher to step into classrooms and ensure a seamless learning experience for students when the regular teacher is unavailable. Concordia Classical Academy is a hybrid school that meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:45-8:45 am. The starting date would be Tuesday, April 7th (adjusted day for a holiday on Monday, April 6th) and would end Thursday, May 7th. We partner with homeschooling families to provide a unique and robust learning experience. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with middle school students across various subjects, maintain classroom routines, and foster a positive educational environment. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, flexibility, and a strong commitment to supporting student growth and development.
Duties
- Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or develop your own based on curriculum guidelines
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a respectful and productive learning atmosphere
- Support students’ academic progress through tutoring and individualized assistance in subjects such as literacy, math, and science
- Maintain classroom organization, including attendance, materials, and student records
- Communicate regularly with school staff about student needs, behavior, and classroom activities
- Assist with classroom activities that promote childhood development and social-emotional learning
- Ensure safety protocols are followed and respond promptly to any student concerns or emergencies
Skills
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development and lesson planning across middle school subjects
- Proven experience in teaching or working with children in an educational setting
- Expertise in classroom management and behavior management strategies
- Ability to work effectively with students with diverse needs, including those requiring special education or autism support
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff
- Familiarity with early childhood education principles and childhood development practices
- Experience in tutoring or providing individualized instruction in literacy education, math, or Montessori methods is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new environments and handle multiple responsibilities with enthusiasm
