Position Summary
Under limited supervision, the Misdemeanor Deputy Prosecuting Attorney represents Jerome County in misdemeanor criminal proceedings, ensuring justice is pursued fairly and efficiently. This role focuses on the processing, investigation, preparation, and prosecution of misdemeanor cases and related legal actions on behalf of the State of Idaho and Jerome County. The successful candidate will collaborate with law enforcement, victims, and the community to uphold public safety while maintaining the highest ethical standards. As part of a small, dynamic team in a rural county setting, this position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the local justice system.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive understanding of Idaho criminal statutes, rules of evidence, and procedural law; knowledge of investigative techniques and ethical standards for prosecutors.
Exceptional legal research and writing abilities; proficient in case management software (e.g., Karpel or similar); strong oral advocacy and negotiation skills.
Ability to exercise sound independent judgment in charging decisions; excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders; capacity to manage a heavy caseload while meeting deadlines; commitment to fairness, integrity, and public service.
Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods, work flexible hours including evenings/weekends for court appearances, and travel within Jerome County as needed.
Working Conditions
This position is primarily office-based with frequent courtroom appearances in Jerome County facilities. Exposure to emotionally challenging situations, such as victim interactions or sensitive cases, is common. The office operates Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional after-hours work. Flexible scheduling available.
