Mobile App Developer

Arlington, United States

Job Summary:

FRDA is seeking a Mobile App Developer to build advanced mobile applications that integrate AI/ML models, enforce security best practices, and prioritize user privacy in highly sensitive and operationally constrained environments. You will work at the intersection of mobile computing, applied analytics, and secure software engineering—delivering capabilities that support national security, field operations, and edge-device analytics.

This role is ideal for developers who understand both the tactical constraints of mobile devices and the strategic importance of safeguarding user data and behavior in contested digital environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and develop mobile applications (Android/iOS) that integrate on-device ML models (e.g., object detection, signal classification, anomaly detection).
  • Implement secure data flows, encryption protocols, and privacy-preserving computation techniques (e.g. local inference, data minimization).
  • Design apps for offline-first use cases with robust handling of degraded or disconnected networks.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to optimize and deploy models using TensorFlow Lite, PyTorch Mobile, or platform-native inference engines.
  • Harden applications against mobile-specific attack vectors using platform security features (e.g. Keychain/Keystore, Secure Enclave, biometrics, sandboxing).
  • Interface with device sensors (e.g. GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, camera, mic) while enforcing strict data access controls.
  • Develop intuitive, mission-ready interfaces tailored for use in operational, tactical, or field-deployed scenarios.
  • Participate in threat modeling, security audits, and code reviews to ensure apps meet rigorous security and privacy standards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to build, test, and deploy apps into controlled, zero-trust, or managed environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in mobile development on Android (Kotlin/Java) or iOS (Swift).
  • Demonstrated experience integrating or deploying ML models into mobile applications.
  • Strong understanding of mobile application security principles and familiarity with OWASP Mobile Top 10.
  • Experience with secure data storage (e.g. encrypted SQLite, shared preferences, or keychain/keystore).
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, WebSocket communication, and JSON serialization.
  • Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD pipelines for mobile.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Experience with cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter, React Native, or Capacitor.
  • Hands-on experience with TensorFlow Lite, PyTorch Mobile, or CoreML.
  • Familiarity with differential privacy, federated learning, or obfuscated telemetry handling.
  • Experience with edge deployments, remote device management, or offline data synchronization.
  • Background working in national security, defense, or highly regulated technical environments.
  • Exposure to device hardening, mobile forensics, or application threat emulation.
  • Prior experience building tools for privacy-conscious or surveillance-adversarial use cases.
  • Contributions to secure or privacy-first open-source mobile projects.
  • Experience integrating with ATAK plugins, IoT edge gateways, or specialized comms stacks.
