POSITION OVERVIEW
The Mobile Innovation Lab Assistant is a passionate educator and/or maker who is familiar with STEAM education, hands-on learning, and has experience facilitating a previously developed curriculum.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Mobile Innovation Lab Manager to ensure all on-site needs are met/logistics are discussed prior to event
- Assist with setting up and breakdown Mobile Innovation Lab at each site including electrical needs, tables, carts, tents, generator (if needed) and break down all equipment post learning experience
- Participate in ‘run of show’ training meetings (volunteers, interns, work-study participants, etc.)
- Assist with maintaining Lab inventory
- Ensure the safety of all Mobile Innovation Lab participants
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to independently commute to locations in Guilford and Randolph Counties
- Pass a school system background check
- Arrive to all shifts on time and utilize guidelines provided by shift_ed staff if tardiness or an emergency occurs
- Understand the importance of and connection between teaching practices and utilizing a maker mindset
- Work collaboratively in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment
- Ability to work in an environment where requirements/ expectations can quickly change and evolve
- Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Transparent with a high-integrity leadership style that motivates people to work hard while having fun
- Skilled in at least two of the following:

Digital fabrication
-
Product design
-
Basic electronics
-
Woodworking
-
CNC and other rapid prototyping tools
- Kid-friendly technology (ex. MaKey MaKey, Lego Mindstorms, Cool Circuits, raspberry pi, etc.)
- Agility to adjust “on the fly”, including determining back up for volunteer and/or children’s absences or conflicts.
Please note this is a Contract Part-Time position with up to 25 hours per week.
Weekly Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm (some evening and weekend hours required as dictated by the program’s needs).
