Mobile Laboratory Chemist – Full-time

Libby Environmental, Inc. is a locally owned environmental testing laboratory in Olympia, WA, specializing in the analysis of soil, water, and product samples for various contaminants, including VOCs, PCBs, petroleum hydrocarbons, and heavy metals. We are seeking a full-time Mobile Laboratory Chemist to join our team. This job posting may also be used to fill other available positions, and a position may be created for the right candidate.

Job Overview
As a Mobile Laboratory Chemist, you will independently analyze samples across the state of Washington using our fully equipped, class C motorhome laboratories. These mobile labs are retrofitted with certified hoods, compressed cylinder storage, and advanced analytical instrumentation, including GC-FID, GC-ECD, and purge-and-trap GC-MS. This role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and a focus on excellent customer service.

Mobile Chemists enjoy bonuses for each day in the field, along with company-paid meals and lodging. You may be required to work overtime and may not return to Olympia daily. You will train with an established Mobile Chemist before working independently. Our labs travel to a variety of locations, across Washington.

When not in the field, you will analyze samples at our fixed laboratory in Olympia, WA, with opportunities to repair instruments, write SOPs, lead training, and cross-train on new methods.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare mobile laboratory for field service, including stocking supplies, instrument maintenance, and calibration.
  • Analyze field samples per client requests, ensuring adherence to quality control requirements.
  • Generate draft reports in the field and submit them to the project manager.
  • Enter sample data, upload results, and produce final reports in the LIMS.
  • Perform regular vehicle and generator maintenance.
  • Effectively communicate with staff to ensure timely project completion.
  • Maintain audit-ready documents for methods performed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Experience with gas chromatography (GC-FID, GC-ECD, GC-MS, and purge-and-trap preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Chemstation, Mass Hunter, and Peak Simple preferred.
  • At least 2 years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform calculations and derive final results from instrument data.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit or stand for 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity to handle delicate items.

Pay: $23.00 -$28.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8-12 hour shifts, Monday to Friday, with overtime as needed.
