The Mohican News Manager will be responsible for managing the Mohican News Office team, providing strategic guidance on messaging, and ensuring consistency in branding and communication across the Tribe's operations. The Manager fosters relationships with the media, tribal members, government officials, and other stakeholders, while overseeing the Tribe’s Mohican News publication, online weekly Mohican Newsletter and communications strategies to support the Tribe’s mission and goals. The Mohican News Manager protects and safeguards all proprietary and confidential information that is gained while completing work duties. Must sign a confidentiality agreement. Must work with the Editorial Board.


STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.

2. Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description

3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record

4. Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays


DUTIES:

1. Lead in the creation and distribution of the Tribe’s newspaper (The Mohican News) and online weekly Mohican Newsletter, ensuring the content accurately reflects Tribal activities, leadership, and events.

2. Work with the Tribal Council; as requested; on press releases, public statements, editorials, speeches, emergency messaging, and presentations.

3. Develop and implement comprehensive communications policies and procedures to ensure messaging aligns with the Tribes priorities and strategic goals. Will review annually and revise as necessary for Tribal Council approval.

4. Directly responsible in the production and distribution of the Mohican News including layout, and printing.

5. Will lead staff in the creation, production and posting of digital, online weekly Mohican Newsletter.

6. Will ensure all public messaging is accurate and of high quality.

7. Will foster community-centered collaboration to effectively communicate the Tribe’s and Tribal Organization’s activities.

8. Will foster a collaborative work environment with office, department and Tribal businesses, to align communication strategies that support the Tribe’s mission.

9. Coordinate and report media events, special events, and press releases ensuring accurate and timely distributed.

10. Oversee photography and video productions for Tribe events, ensuring media content is captured and archived effectively.

11. Shall update and provide copies of the Tribal Directory on a semi-annual basis.

8. Shall draft communication office policies and procedures, revisions; seeking input from the Editorial Board, and submit for Tribal Council approval

9. Shall work with Tribal Departments to promote a positive tribal image ensuring departments’ activities are well reported in a timely manner..

10.Shall complete annual office budget and oversee the office’s expenses and revenues.

11.Will supervise, instruct and mentor office staff.

14. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain

professional and technical knowledge.

15. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies

and procedures.

and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

2. Three years’ work experience in media or communications.

3. Two years’ supervisory work experience.

4. Must be proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro), WordPress, and Microsoft Office.

5. Must possess and display excellent written communication skills. Must submit copies of previous written material.

6. You must be able to travel on short notice.

7. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people showing tact, courtesy and respect. in order to identify document specifications.

8. You must be able to dress appropriately depending on the event being reported and present a professional image to the general public.

9. Must be able to demonstrate strong decision-making skills and knowledge of safety precautions while reporting.

10. You must possess or be willing to learn knowledge of the history of the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe and its current governmental and community activities.

11. Must be organized and detailed oriented.

12. Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.

13. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.

14. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.

15. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.

16. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required. You must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license. Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.

17. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

2. Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.

3. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.

4. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
