Money Services Business (MSB) Specialist

Responsible for managing the bank’s portfolio of Money Services Business (MSB) customers, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and enhanced risk-management expectations. This role oversees ongoing monitoring, manages cash-intensive MSB relationships, and completes required Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and supporting documentation. The MSB Specialist serves as the subject-matter for MSBs and work collaboratively across departments to maintain a strong and compliant compliance program.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

MSB Portfolio Oversight

  • Serve as the primary relationship and compliance manager for all MSB customer accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date MSB files, including FinCEN registration, state licensing, ownership documentation, and AML program materials.
  • Conduct initial and periodic Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews.
  • Monitor MSB performance, financial activity, cash volumes, and operational behaviors.
  • Perform annual reviews and risk scoring for all MSB clients.

Regulatory Reporting & CTR Completion

Prepare and file Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs).Aggregate transactions and verify identity documentation to ensure accuracy.Identify and escalate transactions requiring suspicious activity review.Ensure MSB clients are properly classified and not treated as CTR-exempt.Review MSB account activity for unusual or high-risk behaviors.Prepare and document investigations for SAR escalations.Prepare documentation and audit-ready filesDue Diligence reviews for compliance department.Conduct day-to-day operations in accordance with the laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and expectations of the Bank. Compliance will be recognized as part of the period performance review: noncompliance may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • 2-4 years of Banking experience, BSA/AML or financial-crimes compliance experience preferred
  • Ability to learn or knowledge of MSB regulations requirements, including CTR reporting, and AML expectations
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound judgement in risk management
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage time and priorities effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service skills
  • Ability to collaborate interdepartmentally
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems.
