Overview
Western Star Hospital Authority (WSHA) is seeking a Monitor to support consistent oversight of key initiatives for a homeless shelter in the Greater Los Angeles area, with a focus on improving services for veterans and those who have served our country. The Monitor will provide regular, on-site and operational oversight of program delivery to help ensure services are carried out safely, effectively, and in compliance with required standards and timelines.
This role will coordinate with internal teams and community partners, track performance against established goals, and support ongoing quality improvement efforts to strengthen shelter operations and service outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine walkthroughs of the site at minimum every 30 minutes to ensure personel safety and site security
- Perform wellness and safety checks of personel and their units at least once per shift
- Collaborate with onsite security to monitor and report suspicious or unusual activity
- Manage access control, key fob procedures, and personel lockout assistance
- Assist with meal distribution, dining hall setup/breakdown, and food delivery to isolated Veterans using proper PPE
- Replenish linen, restock toiletries, and distribute hygiene kits and welcome bags to incoming Veterans
- Facilitate laundry access and assist shelter personel with independent laundry at least once per week
- Apply de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to resolve personal conflicts
- Complete incident reports using VA-provided technology platforms; request emergency services when required
- Maintain daily inventory logs, vacant unit logs, and discharged personal belongings records
- Assist social workers with appointment reminder distribution and community life skills programming
- Attend and participate in led meetings and required trainings
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Current and valid AED, CPR, First Aid, and Narcan certifications (contractor responsible for renewal throughout the life of the contract)
- Current and valid California Food Handler Card
- Minimum 1 year of direct experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
- Demonstrated competency in professional email communications and institutional correspondence
- Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with substance use disorders
- Cultural competency across differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical/mental health status
- Physical ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist; ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in proximity with service animals and emotional support animals
- Knowledge of Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care principles preferred
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
