Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Motor Mechanic to join our maintenance team in the industrial sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motors, electrical equipment, and related mechanical systems used in industrial machinery and plant operations. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Motor Maintenance & Repair:
-
Diagnose and repair electrical motors, pumps, conveyors, compressors, and other rotating equipment used in industrial applications.

Perform routine and preventive maintenance on motors and associated machinery, ensuring optimal operation and minimizing downtime.
-
Inspect motors for wear, damage, and performance issues, replacing worn-out parts such as bearings, seals, and electrical components.
-
Rewind motors, repair stators and rotors, and perform insulation testing to ensure motor efficiency and safety.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
-
Use diagnostic tools and instruments (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, vibration analyzers) to identify motor and electrical system faults.
-
Analyze and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and motor performance data to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
-
Investigate electrical and mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Motor Installation & Commissioning:
-
Assist with the installation, alignment, and commissioning of new motors and related equipment in the plant or facility.

Ensure that motors and systems are properly aligned, connected, and calibrated to meet operational requirements.

Perform initial start-ups and fine-tuning of systems to ensure smooth operation and compliance with specifications.

Equipment Overhaul & Upgrades:
-
Overhaul and upgrade motors and associated equipment to improve efficiency, increase reliability, and reduce operating costs.

Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to plan and execute motor replacement, upgrades, and retrofits as needed.

Safety & Compliance:
-
Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), and electrical safety procedures.

Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety policies.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment to reduce risks and promote efficiency.

Documentation & Reporting:
-
Keep accurate records of motor inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities, including parts used and labor hours.
-
Assist in preparing maintenance reports, inventory lists, and equipment performance logs for review by supervisors and management.

Provide input to assist with the development of maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and equipment lifecycle management.

Collaboration & Communication:
-
Work closely with other maintenance technicians, operators, and engineers to ensure plant equipment operates efficiently and reliably.

Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to report on work progress, challenges, and required parts or resources.

Train and mentor junior mechanics or apprentices as needed to develop team capabilities and maintain high performance standards.
Specific Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
-
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in electrical or mechanical engineering, motor repair, or industrial maintenance is preferred.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a motor mechanic or industrial maintenance technician, with hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing electric motors, generators, and related equipment.

Knowledge of industrial motor types (AC, DC, three-phase) and associated control systems.

Technical Skills:
-
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to repair, rebuild, and maintain motors, electrical systems, and other mechanical equipment.
-
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeter, insulation resistance tester, vibration analysis tools) for troubleshooting motor issues.
-
Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring, and control panels as they relate to motor operations.
-
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.

Certifications:
-
Electrical or mechanical certifications (e.g., Journeyman Electrician, Certified Maintenance Mechanic) are a plus.

OSHA safety certification or equivalent safety training is desirable.

Ability to work in a noisy industrial environment with exposure to electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards.
Work Environment:

This position is based at Magnetech (Massillon, Ohio), with occasional travel to other facilities or customer sites as needed.

The work environment may involve exposure to dust, noise, electrical hazards, and other industrial conditions.

Shift work, overtime, and on-call availability may be required depending on plant operational needs.
