Overview
Join our team as a Motor Shop Machinist and become a vital contributor to precision motor repairs and maintenance operations. In this role, you will utilize your mechanical expertise and advanced machining skills to produce, repair, and modify motor and pump components with exceptional accuracy. Your work will ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency in our motor shop environment, supporting the repair/rebuild of reliable machinery and equipment. Duties
- Operate lathes, milling machines, and other machining tools
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to ensure accurate machining processes
- Use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines to verify dimensions and tolerances
- Conduct routine inspections using bore gauges, dial indicators, and other tools to ensure parts meet strict quality standards
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment while adhering to safety protocols; operate hand tools, power tools, forklifts, welding equipment, and other machinery as needed
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying process improvements and reducing waste in machining operations
- Assist in in-house assembly tasks (field installations when required), ensuring components are correctly fitted and functional before final deployment
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in manufacturing environments or motor shop
- Expertise in blueprint reading and interpreting GD&T for precise manufacturing tasks
- Skilled in operating milling machines and lathe equipment with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
- Assist with tear-down and rebuild of AC/DC motors
- Perform shaft build-ups, sleeve installations and custom part fabrication
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs)
- Basic math skills necessary for measurements, calculations, and troubleshooting machining issues
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to welding, power tools, forklift operation, and machine maintenance
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to process improvements
