Sounds great – what’s the role in a nutshell?
The Motorman/Fitter/Electrician is a vital multi-purpose role responsible for the mechanical maintenance, basic electrical repairs, and general upkeep of the engine room and technical spaces. Reporting to the 1st and Chief Engineer, this position focuses on the hands-on execution of repairs, welding/fitting tasks, and supporting the engineering officers in ensuring all systems—from propulsion to guest-facing electrical fixtures—are in peak condition.
Your passion is:
- Technical Support: Assisting Engineers with the maintenance of main engines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Fabrication & Repair: Utilizing welding and fitting skills to repair piping, brackets, and mechanical components as needed.
- Electrical Maintenance: Performing basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs on lighting, motors, and galley/laundry equipment.
- Engine Room Upkeep: Maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organization in the engine room (painting, degreasing, and bilge management).
- Bunkering & Transfers: Participating in fuel, lube oil, and water transfers safely and according to environmental protocols.
- Watch Support: Assisting the duty engineer during rounds and being proactive in identifying leaks, unusual noises, or vibration issues.
- Tool & Inventory Control: Ensuring all workshop tools are maintained and that spare parts for common repairs are well-organized.
What are we looking for?
- STCW III/4 (Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch) or III/5 (Able Seafarer Engine).
- Valid Seafarer's Medical Certificate and STCW Basic Safety Training.
- Proven experience in Welding, Fitting, and Basic Marine Electrics.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar role on commercial vessels or luxury yachts.
- English proficiency (ability to follow technical instructions and safety protocols).
- A "fix-it" mindset with a high level of manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to MARPOL regulations and onboard safety culture.
