Position overview:

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory's (SLAC) Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world's premier science facilities on a 400-acre Stanford site with 150+ structures comprised of office and research facilities for the Department of Energy. We are a dynamic service organization committed to the support and success of the Laboratory's Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.

We are seeking a Maintenance, Repair, and Operation (MRO) Storekeeper with a background in facility inventory management to support F&O, with strict adherence to site-specific safety requirements as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols for shop, field or experimental areas.

The Storekeeper will communicate and coordinate with line supervision as to effort status, progress, and completion timelines. Must be able to follow all SLAC safety rules and regulations and identify areas for improvement.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Under the direction of a lead or supervisor, perform duties relating to the operations of a storeroom, and/or are responsible for one or more of the major functions of a large warehouse.
  • Select, determine, and apply storekeeping guides, procedures, and methods without specific instructions from supervisors.
  • Operate a storeroom or be responsible for one or more functional areas in a large warehouse which receives, stores, and issues a variety of general items
    Independently perform tasks in connection with checking and tallying special and/or technical items of supply
  • Perform purchasing/ordering and reconciliation duties in compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Handle and store stock items which require special treatment which deviates from established
  • Storekeeping methods requires knowledge of stock which may be susceptible to spontaneous combustion, toxicity, rapid deterioration, contamination, fragility, non-standard packaging etc. or may be unique and rare materials
  • Expedite material and equipment include searching for sources of supply. Exercise judgment in estimating amounts of supplies needed for replenishment.
  • Check stock against shipping authorizations for agreement as to quantities, descriptions, size, condition, and conformance to purchase order
  • Makes recommendations of process improvement ¿ May perform any of the duties described in the Storekeeper I specification or other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with various F&O shops to source, purchase and prepare parts for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other facility related maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to safety rules

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and two years¿ experience in storekeeping or other related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience with consumables and MEP related parts and materials in a facility setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of warehouse methods and procedures which is associated with one to two years¿ experience and ability to run warehouses and storerooms with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to organize the workflow and set priorities in the day-to-day operation of warehouses and/or storerooms.
  • Must be able to keep orderly records and have sufficient mathematical ability to verify the accuracy of records and reports.
  • Must possess mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to organize records and materials with efficiency.
  • Familiarity with computers
  • Ability to operate a forklift or stand-up order picker.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • Valid California Class C Non-commercial Driver¿s License.
  • Certification of forklift training after 1 month of employment and maintain certification.

  • As a national laboratory, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is responsible for adhering to the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which require employees to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, employees must successfully complete the applicable tier of federal background investigation post hire and receive a favorable federal adjudication. The tier of federal background investigation will be determined by job duties and national security or public trust responsibilities associated with the job. All tiers of investigation include a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last 1 to 7 years (depending on the applicable tier of investigation). Illegal drug activities include marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

The expected pay range for this position is $36.73 (Step 1) - $44.28 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
