Job Title: 1.0 FTE MS/HS Arts/Digital Arts Teacher

Reports to: MS/HS Principal

Position Status: Full Time / Salary

Contract Dates: 8/24/2026 – 6/9/2027

VISION FOR POSITION

Under the direction of the MS/HS Principal, the Digital and Studio Arts Teacher is responsible for teaching both digital and traditional art classes to middle and high school students. This role empowers students to explore and develop creative skills in digital mediums—such as graphic design, video production, web design, and photography—as well as traditional studio art forms including drawing, painting, ceramics, and mixed media. The teacher will promote artistic expression through a Christ-centered approach, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the arts.

Experience/Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Art Education, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience strongly considered.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools for graphic design, video editing, animation, web design, and digital photography (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience in digital arts, graphic design, video production, web design, or animation.
  • Demonstrated experience in traditional studio art, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media, preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Plan and Deliver Instruction

  • Develop, plan, and deliver engaging and interactive lesson plans for both digital and studio arts classes.
  • Teach artistic design principles—such as balance, contrast, movement, and composition—across digital and traditional mediums.
  • Provide instruction in drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media techniques alongside digital arts instruction.

Digital Tools and Techniques

  • Introduce students to and provide instruction in industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects), 3D modeling software, and video editing platforms.
  • Teach technical skills such as photo editing, digital illustration, animation, video production, typography, web design, and graphic design.

Studio Art Techniques

  • Teach foundational and advanced techniques in traditional art forms, including sketching, painting, ceramics, and sculpture.
  • Provide instruction in color theory, perspective, shading, texture, and composition.
  • Manage and maintain studio equipment.
  • Ensure safe and proper use of art tools, materials, and equipment.

Yearbook

  • Lead the creation of the school’s yearbook, teaching students skills in layout design, photography, and content organization.
  • Coordinate with students, staff, and administration to ensure the yearbook captures the school’s story and highlights key events and achievements.

Student Projects and Portfolios

  • Assist students in developing professional-quality digital and traditional art portfolios that demonstrate their growth, creativity, and technical skills.
  • Encourage creative problem-solving by assigning real-world projects such as branding exercises, promotional videos, digital storytelling, and curated art exhibitions.

Digital Citizenship

  • Teach and model responsible technology use, emphasizing ethical practices in digital creation, copyright, and intellectual property.
  • Foster discussions about the role of art in shaping culture and the importance of creating meaningful, respectful content.

Classroom Environment

  • Create a positive, collaborative, and inspiring classroom environment where students feel encouraged to take creative risks and express themselves.
  • Manage and maintain digital tools, software licenses, and studio equipment, ensuring students have access to up-to-date technology and materials.

Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate digital and studio arts into broader school events and initiatives, such as school promotions, performances, and community outreach.
  • Organize and showcase student work through exhibitions, competitions, and school displays.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on new tools, techniques, and trends in art and education.

Assessment and Communication

  • Evaluate student work using clear rubrics that reflect artistic design principles and technical proficiency.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date gradebook, ensuring students and parents can track progress.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student performance and growth.
