STEP Academy Burnsville is a K-10 charter school located in Burnsville, Minnesota that serves a student body primarily made up of first generation Somali/East African students. As a destination school, STEP Academy ensures all students are nurtured and empowered to use their personal attributes and acquired knowledge to have the choice to participate in early college entry through the Minnesota PSEO program. STEP Academy is dedicated to the growth and development of our entire learning community: students, staff, parents, and administrators.

The Position:

Full time ELL position for grades 6-10

Preferred Qualifications:

K-12 English As Second Language license

Knowledge of/experience with targeted reading interventions

Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds

Experience working with ELL populations

Minimum Qualifications:

Any teaching license and willingness to obtain an out of area designation

Bachelor’s degree, ability to obtain a Tier 1 or 2 teaching license, and willingness to work toward a higher tier teaching license

An understanding of student data and reading instruction

Cultural competence
