Multimedia Content Manager

Reports to: Communications Director

Location: Remote (U.S.-based), with occasional travel as needed

Type: Full-time, Exempt

Compensation: $60,000–$80,000/year, plus healthcare, unlimited PTO, and access to a retirement plan

Position Overview

The Multimedia Content Manager is a dynamic and mission-driven creative role responsible for rapidly producing compelling video and graphic content that drives our narrative, engages members, and supports campaign goals across platforms. This position is ideal for a scrappy, skilled content creator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at turning ideas into clear visual stories, and collaborates well across teams.

You won’t be crafting sleek corporate marketing materials — you'll be producing persuasive, emotionally resonant content that motivates grassroots action, speaks truth to power, and brings the voice of veterans and military families into the center of the national conversation.

As a core member of our communications team, you will work closely with campaigners, organizers, consultants, and digital staff to ensure that every piece of content supports Common Defense’s strategic objectives — from boosting member engagement and shifting narratives to winning legislative fights and influencing elections.

Key Responsibilities

Content Production & Design

  • Rapidly produce short-form video content for social media, email, and other digital platforms.
  • Design graphics, memes, infographics, and toolkits aligned with campaign goals and brand guidelines.
  • Edit video footage from events, member interviews, or sourced media for narrative impact and accessibility (e.g., captions).
  • Manage in-house and consultant-led production timelines to meet tight deadlines.

Strategic Campaign Integration

  • Translate campaign messaging and organizing priorities into visual content that inspires action.
  • Collaborate with organizers, campaigners, and communications staff to align content with campaign phases, key moments, and rapid response opportunities.
  • Ensure all multimedia content supports Common Defense’s 2026 OKRs — including goals around member engagement, earned media, and power-building.

Collaborative Execution

  • Work in close coordination with the Digital Engagement Manager to support online organizing and social media campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the Deputy Director of Campaigns & Mobilizations and other staff to source content and elevate member stories.
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams and external vendors to move creative projects forward efficiently.

Brand & Narrative Integrity

  • Uphold and evolve Common Defense’s visual identity across platforms.
  • Ensure content is accessible, inclusive, and representative of our diverse member base.
  • Stay informed about trends, tools, and best practices in progressive digital campaigning.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in digital content creation, with a strong portfolio of video and graphic work (ideally in political, advocacy, or campaign settings).
  • Proficiency in tools such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and/or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce persuasive, values-based content under tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms (especially Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok) and what drives engagement.
  • Commitment to racial, economic, climate, and gender justice; alignment with Common Defense’s mission and values.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote, fast-moving, collaborative team environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with grassroots or movement-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with veteran or military communities is a plus.
  • Spanish or other language proficiency is a bonus.
