POSITION SUMMARY
The Multimedia Designer produces high-quality creative content and shapes the visual direction of materials across print, web, and video platforms. The role is responsible for conceptualizing and designing original multimedia content, and developing experiential and informative experiences across digital and physical platforms. The Multimedia Designer exercises independent artistic judgment in developing creative solutions that enhance donor and community partner engagement across digital and physical environments.
Working in a highly collaborative environment, the role independently determines appropriate visual approaches, design frameworks, and storytelling techniques while ensuring alignment with organizational brand standards.. This position, like all roles, incorporates specific job functions that advance diversity and equity and contributes to fostering an inclusive organization.
The individual must have design experience with a portfolio demonstrating work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Creative Development & Execution
- Conceptualize and design original digital and print content that translates organizational goals into cohesive visual narratives across mediums including but not limited to banners, publications, presentations, e-newsletters, social media, videos, photography, animation, motion graphics, and promotional materials; apply advanced design principles and exercise independent artistic judgment in determining visual direction, layout, typography, motion treatment, and storytelling approach.
- Direct and produce multimedia storytelling projects, determining creative composition, visual style, pacing, and narrative structure to align with brand and campaign objectives.
- Translate abstract concepts and briefs into cohesive, compelling visual narratives by creating mood boards, storyboards, and style frames.
- Independently originate creative concepts and visual solutions, articulating and presenting original concepts through sketches, mock-ups, and storyboards, and exercising artistic direction in incorporating constructive feedback Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to deadlines, goals, and objectives.
- Interpret and evolve brand guidelines through original creative applications, ensuring consistency and clarity of brand elements while exercising discretion in visual execution. Implement our visual and editorial guidelines to maintain the brand's integrity; proofread copy and review work before submission.
- Create and integrate multimedia content into websites, social media platforms, and e-newsletters; create templates, e-newsletter layouts, and requested creative assets.
- Oversee creative production standards for print deliverables, collaborating with external vendors to ensure fidelity to artistic vision.
- Transform user experiences through research and advanced technology, and implement concepts for events, branding, and marketing campaigns.
Relationship and Collaboration
- Meet and collaborate with departments to build awareness and translate concepts into visual stories; participate in site and donor visits to capture information and assets required for project completion, including measurements, visual content, photography, video, interviews, and audio.
- Co-develop project timelines with supervisor and partners to ensure on-time project delivery.
- Engage in team development, meetings, critiques, project reviews, and ideation sessions.
- Foster and manage vendor relationships (printers, mail houses, freelancers, photographers, etc.); maintain and upkeep a database of businesses, pricing, capacity, contacts, service descriptions, pros and cons, and evaluate service levels.
- Continue to diversify our vendor list to include people of color business owners, sole proprietors, women, and emerging small businesses.
Other
- Package, collect, and save all dependencies and files on the marketing and communications SharePoint in accordance with the file-naming and management system.
- Support implementation of visual updates across digital platforms.
- Work with other designers or freelancers as needed to assist with key initiatives and projects.
- Assist with organization-led events, which may include but are not limited to meeting and greeting customers, setting up and breaking down, collaborating with special guests, and other duties as requested by the internal event organizer and approved by supervisor.
- Stay abreast of the latest design trends and technologies, bring them to the team, and experiment with how to integrate them into the brand.
- Responsible for the inclusion of diverse and inclusive creative solutions (messaging and imagery).
- Support volunteer Marketing/Communications Committee.
- Help coordinate systems to implement Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion organization-wide priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
- This position does not currently supervise any staff.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related major, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in graphic design or a related field.
- A portfolio of work that demonstrates a solid understanding of design principles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Mastery in Final Cut Pro or other similar editing tool.
- Ability to design, prepare, and edit motion and static creative content for digital/print output.
- Strong understanding of design principles.
- Knowledge of video production, audio editing, and social media content creation.
- Articulate design decisions with foundational design principles.
- Ability to listen, interpret requests, gather feedback, and deliver design solutions that reflect the intended purpose.
- Proficient use of typography to enhance clarity, hierarchy, and visual impact.
- Agility when prioritizing workload and multitasking.
- Keen attention to detail and information accuracy.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate photography and video skills.
- Website design and editing experience.
- Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams.
- Inquisitive about new and emerging solutions to communications, design, and marketing trends.
- Strong critical and creative thinking skills, with the ability to analyze challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Ability to respond to inclusive branding guidelines.
- Ability to align creative work to marketing goals.
- Track tasks and assignments using project management software.

- Occasional need to push, pull or lift materials and supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Position operates in a professional office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
- This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to move files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
- On occasion may be exposed to outdoor elements while attending, presenting, or otherwise participating in a work-related event outdoors.
- On occasion may be required to travel within the eight-county region.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This full-time, exempt position offers a starting salary range of $65,000 to $72,000, commensurate with experience. Rochester Area Community Foundation offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
