Position Summary

The incumbent supports a wide range of branding needs for the college through the use of various media including print, digital, web/online and video. Executes the visual brand strategy, as well as artistic and design needs for the college and The Eye Center.

Essential Functions

  • Creates print, digital, and related creative content to help implement SCO’s creative branding strategies.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of color, typography, and layout to be used in both print and digital designs.
  • Provides production designs that include catalogs (print and digital), brochures, donor relation pieces, student recruiting material, alumni invitations and mailers, patient care materials, and other promotional collateral.
  • Assists with design and printing of academic conference posters for faculty members and residents.
  • Works with supervisor to develop and ensure consistent translation of core branding concepts into effective product designs.
  • Works with fellow Communications team members involved in the design process, including leading graphic arts projects in support of institutional priorities.
  • Assists with production of content for photos, videos, presentations, social media, and other needs.
  • Experience using Adobe products, AI content generation, and other programs used to create designs.
  • Envisions and communicates design concepts and methods with a high degree of accuracy and speed.
  • Helps with organizing, maintaining, and retrieving of files and records of jobs produced
  • Maintains knowledge of design market and trends, as well as target market and audiences.
  • Assists in the estimation of design project costs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Art, or Design is preferred; equivalent level of relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience, with preference for nonprofit, academic or corporate environment.
  • Special Skills/ Certifications: Extensive graphic design experience and skill level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and experience with design technologies, processes and workflows.
  • Ability to execute design techniques and principles for print, digital, on-line or web mediums.
  • Knowledge of and experience with creative, business and computer/technology.
  • Working knowledge of Apple hardware configurations and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of marketing, social media, and other applicable communications methodologies.
  • Ability to edit photographs and digital content.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound artistic judgment and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate project management and resource scheduling skills.
  • Ability to use accurate business English, spelling, and professional communication.
  • Ability to take photos/ videos.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of understanding of educational and/or healthcare principles.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of workflow.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Ability to deal with others courteously and tactfully using good verbal communication skills, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
