First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) is looking for an experienced Plumber / Multiskilled Operative to carry out repairs and maintenance across our homes and buildings in Oldham.

You will work in both occupied and empty homes, fixing plumbing issues and completing other repairs to help keep our customers’ homes safe and well maintained.

What you’ll be doing

You will carry out plumbing repairs, maintenance and other multiskilled repairs across our homes. This may include work in kitchens, staircases, gates, fencing, windows and doors.

Examples of repairs you may complete include:

• Renewing or refixing kitchen runners, hinges, catches, plinths, shelves and support legs
• Adjusting kitchen doors and sealing worktops
• Tiling splashbacks and refixing wall or base units
• Refixing loose stair treads, risers, handrails, brackets and spindles
• Adjusting, repairing or rehanging gates and fencing
• Renewing gate hinges, latches, stops, fence posts, palings and rails
• Renewing or adjusting window and door hinges, handles and locks
• Easing timber doors and windows
• Renewing letterplates, door furniture, security locks and chains
• Completing minor patch plastering and repairs
• Cutting out and replastering cracks
• Removing and replacing thermoplastic tiles

You will also:

• Diagnose faults and complete repairs on the same visit where possible
• Carry out damp and mould washes and treatments in line with FCHO procedures
• Manage the materials, tools and equipment needed to complete repairs
• Work to a planned appointment system
• Speak directly with customers when needed
• Carry out inspections, diagnostics and pre-measuring to support repairs
• Make sure completed work meets agreed quality standards
• Update repair records using a PDA or other electronic system
• Keep vehicle stock levels up to date to reduce delays
• Identify and report risks, defects or issues that could affect customers or FCHO homes
• Support apprentices, trainees or colleagues when needed
• Take part in the out of hours emergency repairs rota

Our ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, solves problems well and delivers great customer service.

You will have:

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing, be working towards this, or have equivalent experience
• Experience carrying out repairs and maintenance in occupied and empty homes
• Strong plumbing knowledge
• Additional skills in other trades, such as joinery
• A good understanding of health and safety
• Experience working with customers and members of the public
• Good organisational skills
• The ability to manage your own workload
• The ability to diagnose problems and complete repairs independently
• Confidence using IT systems and mobile devices to update job records
• A full clean UK driving licence

You will also need to:

• Hold or be willing to complete UKATA Asbestos Awareness training
• Take part in the out of hours call out rota
• Work flexibly, including evenings or weekends when needed
