Description
The Municipal Prosecutor is an appointive officer of the City serving in a part-time capacity. Primary responsibilities include representing the City by filing charges, prosecuting misdemeanor offenses and ordinance violations, and seeking justice in court. This includes a wide range of duties, from initial case review and evidence gathering to negotiating plea bargains and presenting cases at court. Municipal Court is held three (3) times a month on Wednesday afternoons/evenings. The City of Riverside has a population of 4,000 residents with a daily working population of 35,000 and is located in southern Platte County, just north of downtown Kansas City.
Examples of Duties

Reviews/submit tickets/cases filed from Police/Codes to court in a timely manner.

Review Police Reports, witness statements (if applicable), Restitution Requests (if applicable).

Provide discovery upon request.

Represent the City in Municipal court three (3) times monthly (all sessions Wednesday afternoon/night) for general docket hearings and trials; and also, upon trial de novo filed at County.

Confer with defense attorneys regarding plea agreements, etc. (either online or in person). Online communication is preferred but plea agreements will be sent to Court.

Be familiar with Riverside ordinances, Missouri Municipal Memorandum Of Settlement and current court operating rules.

Other municipal prosecutorial duties that arise.
Education/Training/Experience
Typical Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school is required.

Licensed Missouri Attorney in good standing is required.

Must have minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law with a minimum of 2 years of prosecution experience.
