Key Responsibilities:
Subject Knowledge
Deliver high-quality, age-appropriate music instruction aligned with the National Curriculum for England (NCfE).
Stay current with trends and advancements in music education.
Plan and implement engaging lessons integrating instruments, voice, music technology, and global musical traditions.
Contribute to school concerts, recitals, and performances.
Curriculum Design & Adaptation
Develop and adapt lesson plans to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Integrate music learning with inquiry-based and transdisciplinary approaches.
Ensure use of effective resources, including digital tools, instruments, and manipulatives.
Communicate learning progress and development with parents and caregivers.
Learning & Teaching
Create a supportive and stimulating learning environment that nurtures musical curiosity and expression.
Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and confidence in learners.
Encourage participation in school music ensembles, performances, and extracurricular activities.
Scaffold foundational music skills across year groups.
Collaboration & Community Engagement
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the curriculum.
Engage with teaching assistants, specialists, and external professionals to support music learning.
Contribute to Citizens School's wider music program, including choirs, orchestras, and community events.
Participate in ongoing professional development, coaching, and peer reflection.
Safeguarding, Inclusion & Well-being
Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and practices.
Promote inclusive learning that celebrates diversity and equity.
Provide emotional and academic support to learners.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
Other Responsibilities
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of music pedagogy.
Lead or support musical initiatives, programs, and events.
Take on duties as required by school leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Valid teaching credential and at least 3 years’ experience in music education.
Proficiency in teaching instruments, voice, music software, and performance techniques.
Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Experience with inclusive teaching practices and student-centered learning.
