Network Administrator — Job Description
Summary
Maintain, administer, and support an organization’s network infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, security, and scalability of wired and wireless networks and related services.
Key responsibilities
- Network administration: Configure, deploy, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs, and network appliances.
- Monitoring &* performance:* Monitor network health (latency, throughput, utilization); tune performance and capacity; implement QoS where required.
- Security: Apply and maintain network security controls (firewall rules, segmentation, IDS/IPS, NAC), patch network devices, and support vulnerability remediation.
- Troubleshooting &* support:* Diagnose and resolve network incidents and outages; perform root-cause analysis and document resolutions.
- Configuration management: Maintain device configurations, backups, change logs, and version control for firmware and configurations.
- Network design &* implementation:* Assist in designing LAN/WAN architectures, VLANs, subnetting, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP as applicable), and network topologies for new projects and expansions.
- Wireless &* remote access:* Manage Wi‑Fi design/tuning, authentication (802.1X), guest networks, and remote access solutions (VPN, Zero Trust gateways).
- Monitoring &* alerting systems:* Implement and maintain NMS tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds) and logging (Syslog, SIEM integration).
- Backup &* disaster recovery:* Support network elements in DR plans, redundancy, failover testing, and business continuity measures.
- Documentation &* standards:* Produce and update network diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and maintenance schedules.
- Vendor &* lifecycle management:* Manage vendor relationships, procure network hardware/software, and plan lifecycle upgrades and replacements.
- Compliance &* auditing:* Ensure network compliance with relevant standards, policies, and audits (e.g., PCI, ISO/IEC 27001) where applicable.
- Mentoring &* collaboration:* Work with IT teams (security, systems, helpdesk) to support projects and mentor junior staff.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or equivalent experience/certification.
- Experience: 2–5 years in network administration or related roles (adjust per seniority).
- Technical skills: Proficiency with TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, routing protocols (OSPF/BGP), switching, firewall configuration, VPNs, wireless technologies, and QoS.
- Tools & platforms: Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, or similar vendors; familiarity with NMS, DHCP, DNS, and network automation tools (Ansible, Python) desirable.
- Certifications (preferred): CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIP, CompTIA Network+/Security+, Palo Alto/Fortinet certifications.
- Soft skills: Strong analytical troubleshooting, clear communication, documentation ability, and teamwork.

Pay: QAR120.25 - QAR299.10 per hour
