Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented News Assistant/Journalist to join our dedicated team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to local journalism through reporting, editing, multimedia production, and social media management. The ideal candidate is passionate about storytelling, committed to accuracy, and eager to engage with the community.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop compelling news stories that resonate with the local audience
• Write clear, accurate, and engaging articles following AP style guidelines
• Conduct interviews and gather information through photography and videography
• Edit and proofread content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency
• Fact-check all reports to ensure journalistic integrity and reliability
• Produce multimedia content including videos and photographs for online platforms
• Manage social media channels to promote stories and increase community engagement

Qualifications

• A Journalism degree is preferred.
• Strong writing skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
• Proficiency in AP style, editing, proofreading, and copy editing
• Experience in photography, videography, and video production techniques preferred, but not required
• Knowledge of social media management tools and strategies
• Excellent communication skills for interviews and community interaction
• Bilingual abilities are a plus but not required
• Demonstrated research skills with the ability to verify facts thoroughly
• This is not a remote position. Candidates must located in Deschutes County
