News Writer

Job Summary

United Press International is looking for experienced news writers to join our growing newsroom in South Florida. UPI, a leading news provider since 1907, has an immediate need for writers to provide services as part of a team to write, produce and optimize U.S. and World news stories on nights and weekends.

Some aggregation of news sources and some original reporting is required.

This is contract work primarily working nights starting after 1 p.m. EDT and weekends, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Required skills:

• Ability to compose, clear, concise, accurate copy for the web
• Solid judgment in selecting trending, breaking and important U.S. and world news
• Ability to work quickly and publish 8 to 10 stories a day
• Knowledge of SEO for journalism
• Ability to proof, fact-check and copy edit other writers' work
• Ability to find multiple online sources
• Knowledge of different journalistic styles and style guides
• Understanding of video, social media and other assets
