Nelson Media Company is seeking a driven, community-focused Managing Editor / Editor to lead editorial coverage for the Butler County Eclipse and help continue the growth of strong local journalism throughout Butler County, Iowa.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who believes in the importance of local newspapers and takes pride in producing high-quality, relevant, and engaging content each week. The ideal candidate enjoys being active in the community, building relationships, and telling meaningful local stories that matter to readers.

What You’ll Do:

* Lead and manage weekly editorial content for the newspaper

* Provide consistent, in-depth coverage of Butler County communities

* Cover local news including city councils, schools, businesses, sports, and community events

* Write stories, take photos, and develop engaging local content

* Assign stories and collaborate with writers, photographers, and freelancers

* Ensure all content meets AP Style and high editorial standards

* Manage deadlines and oversee the weekly production cycle

* Work closely with design and operations teams to deliver a polished final product

* Build strong relationships throughout the community to strengthen coverage and reader trust

What We’re Looking For:

* Prior newspaper, journalism, or editorial experience preferred

* Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills

* Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

* A passion for local journalism and storytelling

* Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented

* Someone who enjoys being active in the community and covering local events
