Job Summary:
- NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Systems certification is an entry-level credential requiring about 6 months of relevant experience and passing a computer-based exam, with a focus on foundational fire alarm knowledge and supervised field work.
- Compliance Services & Assessments (CSA) FA2 certification validates the knowledge and qualifications of fire alarm professionals, ensuring compliance with industry standards and licensing requirements.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum work experience: One year in fire detection and signaling systems, or equivalent technical experience in fire alarm installation, inspection, service, or related construction/engineering work
- Experience must be in the fire alarm systems specialty, such as system layout, equipment selection, installation, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, servicing, or technical sales
- Experience with the following manufacturers: Honeywell Notifier, Edwards Fire Safety (EST), Siemens, Johnson Controls
Knowledge & Skills
- Recognizing and understanding initiating devices, notification appliances, and control equipment
- Interpreting system drawings/documentation and verifying device placement for code compliance
- Understanding signal paths, device roles, and system coordination
- Applying basic electrical/electronic principles relevant to fire alarm systems
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NFPA 72)
