Job Summary
We are seeking a night time driver supervisor to oversee and coordinate daily transportation operations within our fleet. This role involves supervising drivers and assisting with problems they have, administering the fleet safety program, monitoring drivers hours of service, assisting with scheduling, and communication. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of commercial driving and fleet management, with a focus on safety, communication, and operational excellence. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in advancing their leadership skills within the transportation industry. This is not an entry level position and the applicant must have experience in management or transportation management leading teams of 25+ people.
Duties
- Supervise and support a team of drivers engaged in route driving.
- Be sole point of contact for drivers and FedEx Ground overnight as problems arise.
- Be a backup driver in the event of driver call-outs, vacation, sickness, or if extra runs are needed.
- Use telematics software to track drivers to ensure on time deliveries and to mitigate log violations.
- Send detailed recap reports each morning on problems that happened overnight.
- Ensure all drivers adhere to safety regulations and company policies while operating commercial motor vehicles.
- Coordinate daily schedules and routes to optimize efficiency and meet delivery or service deadlines.
- Conduct regular safety checks on vehicles and report maintenance needs; assist with basic mechanical troubleshooting when necessary.
- Oversee the fleet safety program and coach drivers on safe driving behaviors.
- Maintain accurate records of driver hours, vehicle inspections, and route logs.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management to resolve issues promptly and improve operational workflows.
- Work location is generally in Tickfaw, LA but will be required to commute to other terminals to train drivers or run routes as needed. These terminals include Covington, LA, Kenner, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, and McComb, MS.
- Must be willing to flex schedule with notice to ensure 7 day a week driver support in the event other nighttime supervisor is out.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and relay information clearly.
- Ability to supervise a team effectively while maintaining safety standards.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for tractor/trailer troubleshooting and maintenance support.
- Valid Class A driver's license. A doubles endorsement is mandatory for employment but not needed for an interview. Must have at least 1 year of driving experience in the past 3 years.
- Clean criminal background.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Understand that the transportation business is a 24/7 operation.
- A proactive attitude with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be able to think for yourself and problem solve.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
