Job Description of a Duty Medical Officer (RMO/ARMO):
The Assistant Duty Medical Officer assists in providing round-the-clock medical services to patients. They support the Consultants, Surgeons and Treating Doctors and other medical staff in monitoring, diagnosing, and treating patients, primarily in emergency, inpatient, or night-duty settings. The role ensures continuity of care when senior consultants are unavailable.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- MBBS degree (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), BAMS/BHMS/PGDEMS/MD.
- Registration with the Medical Council of the relevant country/state.
- Post graduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine System (PGDEMS), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (often preferred).
- Good clinical judgment, communication, and multitasking skills.
Communication Skills: English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care
- Perform preliminary examination and assessment of patients.
- Take and record detailed patient histories.
- Monitor vital signs and report significant changes to senior doctors.
- Assist in diagnosis and management under supervision of senior clinicians.
2. Emergency Care
- Respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Initiate life-saving procedures such as CPR, airway management, and stabilization.
- Assist in managing trauma, poisoning, cardiac, and other critical cases.
3. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Document treatments, medications, progress notes, patient/relative communication and test results.
- To check Consent forms wherever applicable
- Prepare daily case summaries and handover notes for shift changes.
4. Coordination and Communication
- Coordinate with nursing staff, diagnostic departments, and consultants.
- Update patient relatives about condition and progress (if authorized).
- Facilitate admission and discharge processes.
5. Procedures and Treatment
- Administer IV fluids, injections, and medications as prescribed.
- Assist in minor surgical procedures or wound care.
- Support pre-operative and post-operative patient care.
6. Supervision and Support
- Guide nursing and paramedical staff as required.
- Ensure infection control and hygiene protocols are followed.
7. Night and Rotational Duties
- Work in shifts, including night duties, weekends, and public holidays.
- Remain on-call to handle patient emergencies during off-hours.
