Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Driver

Position Summary:

The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from medical appointments, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and residential locations. This position requires excellent customer service skills, a clean driving record, and the ability to assist passengers with varying levels of mobility while maintaining professionalism and empathy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a company-provided NEMT vehicle in accordance with Texas traffic laws and company policies.
  • Pick up and drop off passengers at scheduled times, ensuring on-time service.
  • Assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle, including the use of wheelchairs, walkers, and stretchers when required.
  • Properly secure wheelchairs, seat belts, and other mobility aids before transport.
  • Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and passenger manifests.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and passengers regarding pickup/drop-off times and route updates.
  • Inspect the vehicle daily for cleanliness, mechanical soundness, and proper safety equipment.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.
  • Provide courteous, compassionate, and respectful service to passengers, many of whom may be elderly or disabled.
  • Follow HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:

Minimum Age: 21 years old

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required

License: Valid Texas driver’s license (Class C or higher)

Driving Record: Clean driving record with no major violations or suspensions in the last 3 years

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of professional driving experience (preferred)
  • Experience in healthcare transportation, NEMT, paratransit, or similar role (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50- 150 lbs
  • Comfortable assisting passengers with mobility devices
  • Able to sit for long periods and perform repetitive vehicle entry/exit movements

Certifications (preferred or may be required):

  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Defensive Driving Certification
  • PASS (Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity) Certification
  • DOT Medical Card (if operating vehicles over a certain weight or as required by company)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Punctual and dependable with excellent time management
  • Knowledge of the Dallas–Fort Worth area and major routes
  • Ability to remain calm and patient under pressure
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle safety and maintenance
  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Schedule:

  • Flexible shifts (morning, afternoon, and weekend availability may be required)
  • Overtime may be available depending on company needs

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay: $15-$25 per hour (based on experience and certifications)

Work Environment:

  • Primarily field-based, driving within the North Dallas area
  • Frequent interaction with patients, healthcare facilities, and dispatch personnel
  • May involve exposure to various weather conditions during travel

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
