Position Summary
The Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and producing timely financial reports for a nonprofit organization. This role combines hands-on transactional work with financial analysis and reporting to support leadership decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Accounting
- Manage general ledger and chart of accounts
- Perform data entry (AP, AR, journal entries, payroll entries)
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and grant accounts
- Maintain supporting documentation and audit trails
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Produce budget vs. actual reports
- Assist with board reports and financial presentations
Analysis & Budgeting
- Analyze financial data and trends
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting
- Track restricted vs. unrestricted funds
- Monitor grant spending and compliance
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP, fund accounting)
- Assist with annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation
- Maintain internal controls
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain accounting software and other systems (e.g., QuickBooks, TripleSeat and Patron Manager)
- Improve processes and reporting efficiency
* This position requires a self-starter who is willing to perform daily transactional tasks, along with the other typical accounting responsibilities.
*This position will be majority in office, but there is the option of working remotely for one day a week.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 4+ years of accounting experience (nonprofit preferred but not required)
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Experience with accounting software- Quickbooks and Excel
- Valid drivers license
- Pass a background check
Preferred
- Nonprofit / fund accounting experience
- Experience with audits or grant reporting
- CPA (nice to have, not required)
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
