NOTICE OF INTENT TO APPOINT A COUNTY ATTORNEY

In accordance with Section 69.14A, Code of Iowa, the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors hereby gives public notice that they intend to fill the vacancy of County Attorney created by the resignation of James P. Barry by appointment.

The appointee must meet the following Code of Iowa requirements to hold the office: (1) must be a registered voter of the county; and (2) must be admitted to the practice of law in the courts of Iowa.

A copy of the position responsibilities per the Code of Iowa may be requested from the Muscatine County Administration Office. To be considered for the appointment, a letter of interest and resume must be received by the Muscatine County Administration Office,

Appointment will be effective from January 5, 2026 until the official canvass following the November 3, 2026 General Election.

If within fourteen days after publication of this notice or within fourteen days after the appointment is made, a petition is filed with the County Auditor requesting a special election to fill the vacancy, the appointment is temporary and a special election shall be called as provided by Section 69.14A(2)(a)(2), Code of Iowa. A petition for special election must comply with Iowa Code Section 331.306.
