Dog Trainer/Handler — Walk & Train Specialist
Bring your leash skills, your love of learning, and your best “good dog!” voice. We’re looking for an experienced trainer/handler to deliver high-quality Walk & Train sessions that make city life easier (and more fun) for dogs and their humans. If R+ training is your passion and you thrive outdoors, this is for you.
What you’ll do
- Lead 1:1 walk-based training sessions that blend exercise with clear, positive behavior goals.
- Coach impulse control and manners on the move: heel, sit, leave it, watch me, and calm greetings.
- Build loose-leash skills and redirect reactivity around dogs, bikes, cars, and city commotion.
- Guide “City Dog” foundations: sights, sounds, and sidewalk etiquette.
- Track and share progress with weekly reviews that keep pet parents in the loop.
- Keep dogs safe, comfortable, and thriving—always.
- Show up reliably for your route and your pups.
How you work
- You use R+ first and know how to prevent and replace unwanted behaviors humanely.
- You can read body language, spot stress early, and adjust on the fly.
- You’re calm, confident, and physically ready for active, outdoor days in all seasons.
- You communicate clearly and kindly with clients and teammates.
What you bring
- 2+ years of hands-on dog handling required; prior dog training experience preferred.
- Education in dog training/behavior is a big plus; basic pet first aid knowledge helps.
- Skill with varied sizes, temperaments, and energy levels.
- Ability to apply behavior modification during real-world walks.
- Strong, professional communication skills
- Comfortable navigating city transit.
Schedule, training, and growth
- Availability: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
- Start with paid training 2–3 days/week, then transition to a solo route.
- Typical post-training hours begin around 10–15 hours/week, with growth based on skill and availability.
- Most sessions are Walk & Train focused: reducing reactivity, building leash manners, and creating reliable outdoor expectations.
Role requirements
- Consistent weekday availability within the listed hours.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- English speaking.
- Reliable, on-time attendance.
- Willing to work outdoors daily in variable weather.
- References and background check required.
Bonus points
- Solid foundation or formal education in Dog Training and Animal Behavior.
- Working knowledge of city transit and urban dog-life logistics.
Why you’ll love it
- Meaningful impact: transform daily walks into teachable, confidence-building adventures.
- Real results: clear training plans, measurable progress, happy clients, happier dogs.
Ready to help city dogs thrive? Apply with your resume, a brief note about your training approach (especially your R+ experience), and three references.
