The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide high-quality, patient-centered pain management care as part of a multidisciplinary outpatient practice. The advanced practice provider will evaluate, treat, and manage patients with acute and chronic pain conditions, develop individualized care plans in collaboration with supervising physicians, and support comprehensive pain therapies and education.

Clinical Care

Perform thorough patient evaluations and physical assessments for acute and chronic pain complaints.
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized pain management treatment plans in consultation with supervising physicians and care teams.
- Manage medication therapy, including controlled substances, consistent with state/federal guidelines and clinic policies.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic studies such as labs and imaging.
- Provide patient education on pain conditions, treatment plans, medication expectations, side effects, risk mitigation, and lifestyle strategies.
- Document patient encounters, assessments, and plans accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
Procedures & Coordination
- Assist with or perform in-office pain procedures where permitted and trained (e.g., trigger point injections, joint injections, pump refills).
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team members including physicians, therapists, behavioral health specialists, and referring providers.
- Support quality improvement activities and clinical team meetings to optimize outcomes.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with prescribing regulations, documentation standards, and practice policies.
- Participate in monitoring chronic pain treatment effectiveness and adapt plans based on clinical response.
Required Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted NP or PA license eligible or active in Kentucky and/or Indiana.
- National certification (e.g., AANP, ANCC, NCCPA).
- Active DEA license or ability to obtain upon hire (for prescribing controlled substances).
- BLS certification; advanced certifications (ACLS) preferred.
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in pain management, musculoskeletal care, primary care, neurology, or related clinical settings.
- Familiarity with non-pharmacologic pain strategies and interdisciplinary care frameworks.
- Comfort managing controlled substance therapies and compliance protocols.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative clinical team.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time outpatient clinical practice, typically Monday–Friday, day shift.
- Occasional coverage or collaboration at affiliated sites as needed.
- No routine nights or weekend on-call in most settings.
