Job Overview:
The NPI (New Product Introduction) Buyer plays a key role in supporting new product development and launch activities by sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials required for engineering builds and pilot runs. This role acts as a vital link between Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, and suppliers; ensuring materials are procured on time, within budget, and meet required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sourcing & Procurement
• Identify and qualify suppliers for new product components.
• Issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and evaluate proposals.
• Create and manage purchase orders to support NPI builds and pilot runs.
2. Supplier Management
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and cost.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for supplier-related issues.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with Engineering, R&D, and Manufacturing to understand material requirements.
• Ensure timely availability of materials to support early builds and production ramp-up.
• Support smooth handoff from development to production teams.
4. Negotiation & Cost Management
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to ensure cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with finance and planning teams to align procurement budgets.
5. Issue Resolution & Risk Management
• Address supplier-related problems such as delays, quality defects, or invoice discrepancies.
• Develop and implement corrective and recovery plans as needed.
6. Data & Documentation Management
• Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier data in ERP systems.
• Track lead times, costs, and supplier performance metrics.
Qualifications
• Proven experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or electronics environment.
• 5+ years of material planning experience within a PCBA manufacturing environment
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional project teams.
• Familiarity with NPI processes, RFQs, and product development timelines.
• Knowledge of supply chain logistics, production scheduling, and inventory control.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
