Job Summary
The
School Nurse
is responsible for promoting the health, safety, and well-being of all students and staff. This role includes providing first aid and emergency care, managing student health records, implementing health policies, and supporting wellness education within the school. The nurse plays a key role in ensuring a safe and healthy school environment.
Key Responsibilities

Health Services & First Aid
Provide first aid and emergency care for illnesses and injuries occurring on school premises.
Assess student health complaints and provide appropriate treatment or referrals.
Maintain accurate records of health incidents and treatments administered.
Monitor and manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or allergies.

Medication Administration
Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications according to physician instructions and parental consent.
Maintain a secure system for storing and documenting medications.

Health Records & Compliance
Maintain up-to-date student medical records, including immunization records and health history.
Ensure compliance with local health regulations and reporting requirements.
Assist with school entry health screenings and manage documentation for new admissions.

Health Education & Promotion
Promote healthy habits and hygiene practices among students.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate health education into the curriculum where appropriate.
Support mental health and wellness initiatives within the school community.
Monitor for signs of communicable diseases and implement infection control protocols.
Educate students and staff on illness prevention (e.g., handwashing, hygiene).
Liaise with local health authorities during outbreaks or health emergencies.
Participate in school safety drills and emergency response planning.
Maintain first aid kits across the campus and ensure staff are trained in basic first aid and CPR.
Respond to accidents and health emergencies during school events or trips.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
Current and valid nursing license/registration in [Country/Region].
CPR and First Aid certification (required).
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; school or pediatric nursing experience preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.
