PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• The staff nurse reports to the OT In charge.
• Help to Prepare surgery schedule
• Do the all works as per NABH protocol
• Ensure the availability of emergency medicines in OT
• Prepare expiry list of all stock medicine inside the OT

OT Arrangement - Cataract, Lasik and Retina

• Autoclave unloading
• Machine arranging
• IOL verification and check the availability
• Retinal injection – Verify the medicine and Maintain the stock of the same

Check oxygen, nitrous and all gases suction and all other supportive equipments to be ready

• Maintain necessary medicines
• Check the availability of surgery instruments on day before
• Help to arrange instruments and dresses for Lasik procedure

Circulation

• Preparation of surgical instruments, linen, aesthetic articles, drugs and necessary sutures.
• Maintain consumption register

Welcome the patient while entering to OT

• 
  Ensure fitness of patient before surgery
• Ensure lab test is done before surgery
• Assist the anesthesia doctor
• Confirm patient name, MR number and eye
• Check grade, dilatation and any other complications (cataract)
• Change the dress obey the OT protocol
• Give peripheral block if needed

Assist the surgery

• Scrub the hands as per NABH rule
• Ensure all instruments and other equipments are ready( cataract , lasik retina and other surgeries )
• Confirm the eye , type of surgery ( Cataract – SICS/ PHACO/MICS ) (Lasik OT – LASIK/ PRK) (Retina – AVASTIN / IVTA or other injection
• Drape the patient
• Assist the doctor (cataract, Lasik , retina , and other surgery )
• Collection, preserving and labelling of specimen with appropriate preservatives and sending the same to lab

OT Cleaning

• 
  Necessary cleaning to be done get ready for next case using disinfectant
• Clean all machines and equipments
• fumigation to be done daily and whenever it is required by using proper drugs
• sending the swabs for culture and sensitive ones in week and whenever it is necessary ( water

culture and AC )

• Switch on the UV light

Check the availability of surgery instruments on day before

• Check surgery patient appointments (cataract, Lasik, Retina)

Central sterilisation department

• Instruments washing, drying , packing
• Linen packing
• Cotton ,eye pad and gauze making and packing
• do autoclave
• Auto clave the OP instruments and ward instruments to Kannur branch
• Sent the items to Perinthalmanna for ETO sterilisation
• Receive the consumables from pharmacy and verify with request form, and store them appropriately
• Stock checking & maintenance of OT items
• Check and receive with all reports, records and all other pre-operative check list.
• Coordinate with Lasik in charge
• Prepare consumption form at the time of surgery
• Maintain necessary medicine stock in OT
• Ensure recovery criteria of every patient before shift from OT to ward
• Any other responsibility assigned by the management is to be carried out
