Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our fast-paced urgent care team. The Urgent Care NP will provide prompt, high-quality medical care to patients of all ages with acute, non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The ideal candidate is autonomous, able to work collaboratively with a team, and proficient in minor procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Perform detailed patient histories, physical examinations, assessments, and diagnoses in an urgent care setting.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications, ordering diagnostic tests (X-rays, lab work), and interpreting results.
- Procedures: Perform minor medical procedures, including but not limited to, laceration repair (suturing), incision and drainage (I&D), splinting, wound care, ear irrigation, and foreign body removal.
- Triage: Evaluate patients to determine the need for higher-level care and facilitate transfers to the emergency room when necessary.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR) for all patient visits.
- Counseling: Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, preventive health, and follow-up care.
- Collaboration: Work with clinical staff (MAS, Nurses, X-ray techs) to maintain efficient patient flow.
Qualifications
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with current certification in advanced practice nursing.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems
- Skilled in performing procedures including sutures and I&D
- Familiarity with diverse clinical environments such as emergency rooms, hospital medicine units, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospice & palliative medicine settings.
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to work with individuals of all ages—including pediatrics and those with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs.
- Knowledge of infection control practices, infection prevention protocols, and OSHA standards for safe clinical practice.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
