Nurse Practitioner

Right Care is seeking a patient-centered Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide high-quality primary care services in a collaborative, team-based office setting. The NP will perform comprehensive assessments, diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, deliver preventive care, and coordinate care across the continuum. This role supports efficient patient flow, high clinical quality, and a compliant patient experience. The position may be scheduled as Part-Time, PRN (as needed), or Full-Time and may be compensated on an hourly or salaried basis depending on clinic needs and the final offer.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary care services consistent with evidence-based guidelines and Right
  • Care clinical protocols, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute illness evaluation.
  • Conduct focused and comprehensive histories and physical examinations; document findings, differential diagnoses, and treatment plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic studies (e.g., laboratory tests, imaging, point-of-care testing) and communicate results to patients in a timely manner.
  • Diagnose and manage common primary care conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, asthma/COPD, thyroid disorders, depression/anxiety) with appropriate escalation/referral as indicated.
  • Provide age-appropriate health maintenance: screenings, immunization counseling, lifestyle counseling, and risk-factor modification (nutrition, exercise, tobacco cessation, sleep, substance use).
  • Provide optional women’s preventive health services within competency, clinic scope, and applicable supervision/privileging requirements, including collection of Pap smears/cervical cancer screening specimens and related patient counseling, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans; coordinate follow-up intervals and patient education to promote adherence and self-management.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies within the NP’s authorized scope, credentialing, and privileges; reconcile medications at each visit and assess for interactions, contraindications, and adherence.
  • Perform or supervise in-office procedures within competency and privileges (e.g., wound care, incision and drainage of simple abscesses, removal of sutures/staples, simple dermatologic procedures as authorized).
  • Collaborate with Medical Assistants and nursing support for routine in-office medication administration and injections under standing orders and clinic protocols; ensure appropriate screening, documentation, and post-administration monitoring.
  • Respond to patient messages, refill requests, and clinical questions within defined service-level expectations; triage urgent issues appropriately.
  • Participate in daily huddles, team meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives to support patient experience, operational efficiency, and quality outcomes.

Clinical Scope, Prescriptive Authority, and Supervision (North Carolina)

The Nurse Practitioner is a licensed clinician and will practice in accordance with applicable North Carolina laws and regulations, Right Care policies and procedures, and the NP’s credentialed scope of practice/privileges. If required for the NP’s practice setting and role, the NP will maintain an appropriate collaborative practice arrangement and physician supervision/consultation structure consistent with clinic policy and payer requirements. The NP is responsible for maintaining all professional licenses, registrations, and authorizations necessary to perform the role, including controlled substance prescribing privileges where applicable.

  • Maintain active North Carolina RN and NP licensure, national NP certification, and required registrations/authorizations (e.g., DEA registration, state controlled substance registration if applicable).
  • Prescribe and manage medications consistent with clinical indications, clinic protocols, payer rules, and the NP’s authorizations; follow Right Care policies for controlled substances, PDMP review, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure that delegated clinical tasks performed by unlicensed personnel (e.g., MAs) are appropriate for delegation, protocol-driven, and supported by training/competency validation and required supervision.
  • Escalate clinical concerns, abnormal results requiring urgent evaluation, and adverse events promptly per clinic policy and applicable standards of care.

Documentation, Coding, and Billing Support

  • Document services accurately and contemporaneously in the EHR, including assessment, plan, patient instructions, and follow-up.
  • Select and support accurate coding and documentation elements (e.g., history/exam/medical decision-making) consistent with current E/M guidelines and clinic billing policies.
  • Support risk-adjustment and quality measure documentation (as applicable) by capturing relevant diagnoses, problem lists, and care gaps.
  • Complete required forms (e.g., disability/FMLA, school/work notes, prior authorizations) within clinic workflows and timelines.

Care Coordination and Population Health

  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and ancillary services; provide clear clinical context and ensure appropriate follow-up and tracking of referral outcomes.
  • Collaborate with care managers, referral coordinators, and front office staff to close care gaps and improve continuity of care.
  • Participate in panel management activities (e.g., outreach for overdue labs, preventive screenings, chronic disease monitoring) as assigned.

Patient Experience and Professional Standards

  • Demonstrate respectful, culturally responsive, trauma-informed communication and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on diagnoses, treatment options, medication use, and self-care; support shared decision-making.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to Right Care’s code of conduct, attendance standards, and service expectations.

Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management

  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA privacy and security requirements; safeguard PHI in verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Follow OSHA and infection prevention standards, including appropriate use of PPE and safe injection practices; model and reinforce compliance for the clinical team.
  • Adhere to vaccine storage/handling procedures (cold-chain integrity), adverse event reporting, and immunization documentation requirements (e.g., VIS distribution when applicable).
  • Report safety events, near misses, medication errors, and adverse reactions promptly using clinic reporting procedures; participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (e.g., Family Nurse Practitioner) with eligibility for national certification.
  • Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN license and North Carolina NP approval/licensure as applicable for the role.
  • National certification as an NP (e.g., AANP or ANCC), in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred depending on clinic services) or ability to obtain within a defined onboarding period per clinic policy.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive assessments, diagnose and treat common primary care conditions, and manage preventive care in an outpatient setting.
  • Ability to accurately document in an EHR and follow standardized workflows; strong attention to detail and commitment to patient confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of outpatient primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, or urgent care experience.
  • Experience with chronic disease management and evidence-based preventive care in a panel-based model.
  • Experience with immunization workflows, standing orders, and supervising/working alongside MAs administering routine IM/SQ/ID injections per protocol.
  • Comfort with point-of-care testing, basic office procedures, and care coordination/referral management.
  • Experience with quality metrics and value-based care workflows (care gap closure, preventive screening outreach).

Work Schedule and Employment Terms

Right Care may offer flexible scheduling options, including Part-Time shifts or PRN (as needed) coverage.

Schedules may include early mornings, evenings, or occasional Saturdays based on patient demand.

Hours are not guaranteed for PRN roles. Compensation type (hourly vs salaried) and benefits eligibility

are based on employment classification and will be outlined in the offer letter and applicable policies.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to move between exam rooms throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (supplies/equipment) and to assist with safe patient positioning as needed.
  • Visual and manual dexterity sufficient to perform clinical tasks (e.g., examinations, procedures, specimen handling).
  • Work involves exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, sharps, and cleaning chemicals; adherence to PPE and safety protocols is required.

  • Employment is contingent on successful completion of any pre-employment screening required by Right Care, which may include background checks, reference checks, and verification of licensure/credentials.
