Main Function

To provide medical care of the patient while at Seafield Center and to ensure all newly admitted patients are medically stable for admission and participation in our programs.

Use information systems access as assigned, when applicable.

This position is classified as “Essential” for emergency closure purposes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Performs physical examination and mental status evaluation of each patient admitted.

Upon admission, or within 24 hours of admission, provides an admitting or tentative diagnosis that becomes part of the client’s record.

Writes initial orders for care of each patient upon admission.

Perform reexamination and treatment of each patient pertinent to physical and mental complaints, ranging from supportive reassurance to specific treatment of existing physical illness.

Consults with outside physicians or dentists as needed.

Adjusts medications daily when indicated.

Meets with patients prior to discharge to review medical status and to make appropriate referrals.

Consults with family as to care, management and health of the patient when indicated.

Ensures that the patient is informed of his/her rights either by direct information or through a designee.

Ensures all consents are signed for medical treatment.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Education And Qualifications
At least one year substance use disorders treatment experience. A physician, either M.D. or D.O, or PA or NP who is licensed to practice in the state of New York. A.S.A.M. membership encouraged but not required.
