Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Inpatient

About the Role

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join an Inpatient Addiction Medicine Consult Team . In this role, you will practice at the top of your license, providing hospital-based consultations and treatment recommendations for patients with substance use disorders (SUD) and related medical or psychiatric conditions.

You will serve as a key clinical resource within the hospital , collaborating with physicians, hospitalists, nurses, case managers, and emergency department teams to deliver evidence-based addiction treatment and support continuity of care after discharge.

This is a unique opportunity to help build and shape hospital-based addiction medicine programs while working alongside a mission-driven team dedicated to expanding access to life-saving treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct inpatient addiction medicine consultations for patients with substance use disorders and related comorbidities

Perform comprehensive medical and/or psychiatric evaluations and develop evidence-based treatment plans

Collaborate closely with attending physicians, hospitalists, nursing staff, emergency department teams, and case managers to coordinate care

Apply Motivational Interviewing and harm-reduction principles to support patient engagement and recovery

Initiate and manage evidence-based SUD treatments and medications with mentorship from addiction medicine specialists

Facilitate care coordination and discharge planning , ensuring smooth transitions to outpatient clinics and community resources

Serve as a clinical resource to hospital providers , helping educate teams on addiction medicine treatment approaches

Build strong, collaborative relationships with hospital staff to support an integrated model of addiction care

Stay current on addiction medicine best practices through ongoing education and clinical mentorship

Provide occasional cross-coverage for outpatient APPs as needed

This role is well suited for clinicians who:

Are comfortable working in hospital and acute care environments

Can manage higher acuity and medically complex patients

Have strong clinical experience in substance use disorder treatment

Are confident collaborating with hospital teams, including ER and inpatient providers

Are skilled at building professional relationships within hospital systems

Because this role involves working across multiple hospital departments, strong diplomacy, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner (FNP, AGNP, PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C)

Active license in Tennessee (or ability to obtain)

1–2+ years of hospital-based clinical experience strongly preferred

Experience evaluating and managing substance use disorders and related conditions

Knowledge of SUD medications, treatment models, and harm reduction strategies

Ability to navigate hospital systems and interdisciplinary care teams

Strong communication, collaboration, and patient engagement skills

Passion for expanding access to compassionate, non-punitive addiction treatment

Schedule

Monday – Friday

8:30 AM – 5:00 PM CST

Credentialing does not need to be completed prior to start

Compensation

Base salary: $130,000 – $145,000 (W2)
