Fieldstone Gardens is family owned and operated nursery and landscape company seeking motivated, reliable individuals to join our team for the upcoming season. We are currently hiring for multiple positions, we welcome applicants with a passion for plants, outdoor work, and customer service.

We are hiring for seasonal employees to work in the retail nursery, work planting maintaining existing plants, shrubs, and gardens. A great opportunity for retiree’s or anyone else who loves being outside and working with plants and people.

We are also looking for help on for landscape workers. This can be a great opportunity for high school or college students looking to enjoy a fast-paced summer job.

Fieldstone Gardens includes 10 acres of gardens, a 250-acre sustainable tree farm, an apple orchard, lilac collection, retail store, fields, ponds, and their famous stone walls. The nursery includes extensive display gardens featuring perennial borders and shade gardens as well as specimen trees and shrubs. It has been called "One of the most beautiful spots in central Maine."

The garden center is open to the public April – October offering a large assortment of vegetable seedings, annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees (fruit and ornamental). Additionally, perennials may be purchased via mail order with delivery available across the lower 48 United States.

General Responsibilities (Other Positions)

  • Planting trees, shrubs, flowers, and perennials
  • Assisting customers with plant selection and gardening questions
  • Loading/unloading plants, soil, and materials
  • Maintaining nursery displays and plant health
  • Operating landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, loaders, etc.)
  • General grounds and property maintenance
  • Plants, fertilizes, weeds, prunes, repots, waters, and mulches plants, shrubs, and trees in the nursery using hand and gardening tools.
  • Provides advice and guidance to customers related to plant choices and care.
  • Inspects plants to assess quality and health and to identify signs of disease or pests.
  • Propagates plants by gathering seeds and spores; oversees germination and stratification.
  • Ensures plants are healthy and properly cared for.
  • Assists customers with purchases, operating the nursery’s point of sale system.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Maintains the inventory of nursery contents.
  • Maintains clean work areas, grounds, and landscaping.
  • Ensures the irrigation and climate control systems are working properly; performs basic maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains records/inventory for plants related to size, watering, feeding, and products used.

Qualifications

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds (depending on position) and perform physical tasks.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist as needed working with plants.
  • Experience in landscaping, horticulture, or retail is a plus (but not required for all roles)
  • Leadership experience preferred for Team Leader role
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Pay: From $15.10 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Landscape Maintenance: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Required)
