The Nursing Pathway coordinator is responsible for managing the nursing pathways for pre-licensure BSN. This role will help the expansion and diversification of Spalding University's nursing student population and geographical reach. This position follows students in the pathway from initial admission to the university to admission to the nursing program thus requires advising and creating course schedule planners for the students. The pathway coordinator works closely with the School of Nursing, the Admissions Office, and offices across campus to support the progression of pre-licensure students into the professional licensure nursing programs, such as traditional and accelerated second degree.

Salary/Hourly wage for this position is $50,000 yearly with a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical coverage, 403b, 23 Paid Time Off days, 21 Holidays, tuition remission, travel reimbursement, cellphone allowance, and much more. This position is funded by a Department of Labor grant and position may be contingent on continued grant funding.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree and experience working in a higher education setting.

Reports to: Director of Academic Advising and Student Success

  • INTERRELATIONS
    Regular or daily contact with Chair of Nursing and BSN Director, the Admissions office, faculty, staff, and students.
  • The position requires monthly reporting to SpaldingPATH Director.
  • Must have an appreciation and respect for diverse populations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Using a proactive and holistic approach, the Nursing Pathway Coordinator will assist students in their course progression, planning, and preparation for the professional licensure nursing programs.

  • Act as liaison with Admissions, Marketing, and Nursing Faculty to address concerns, student needs, and share data.
  • Provides monthly or quarterly reports to Pathway quarterly meetings as required by the grant.
  • Accompany Admissions on recruitment events as requested.
  • May require occasional weekends or evenings for informational events (BeSU, Open House, etc)
  • Established contact with each student admitted to Spalding University interested in BSN nursing degree (Accelerated Second Degree or traditional nursing programs). Complete progression pathways for each student, conduct consistent contact with students in pathway and advise students along the pathway
  • Advise students individually regarding academic core and/or department requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources.
  • Assist students from point of enrollment to the start of Nursing classes in meeting requirements for admission into upper-division nursing program, utilizing tools such as Slate.
  • Refer students to campus resources and conduct follow-up as needed.
  • Reduce student stop-out gap by communicating with Student and Academic Success staff on barriers to student success and providing students with timely interventions if/when they encounter barriers.
  • Provide advising for prospective transfer students regarding program requirements and graduation requirements. Identify students who are prepared to make application to the upper-division of the School of Nursing, and assist the SON with compiling materials for admissions review.

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Organizational, communication, and follow upskills combined with a strong work ethic and a goal-oriented, self-motivated approach toward achieving consistent results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport and relationships with multiple constituents
  • Computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as experience using customer relationship management systems (CRM) and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Excellent communication and listening abilities: persuasive and negotiation skills, strong professional writing, public speaking, interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Experience creating promotional marketing material is a plus
  • 1-3 years’ advising experience required
  • 1-3 years’ experience in recruitment, admissions, or higher education
  • Academic platforms (Slate, Colleague, etc.) experience preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends.
