GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Criminal Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), is seeking a Program Specialist who will be responsible for managing the daily evidence and property functions for the Criminal Investigations Division. These duties include receiving and documenting incoming/outgoing evidence; maintaining the proper chain of custody; determining and maintaining appropriate evidence storage.OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans. Verifies evidence reports against property to ensure accuracy.

Responsible for preserving and maintaining the chain of custody for all items of evidence.

Maintains an accurate accounting of all property transfers and releases. Releases property to officers, property owners, and/or other agencies.

Coordinates the receipt of incoming and outgoing evidence for outside agencies

Accountable for security and integrity of the evidence room, and temporary evidence storage locations.

Manage and maintain separate filling system of active and non-active files.

Determines appropriate and lawful disposition of all CID evidence including drafting motions for disposition of property to District Clerk offices across the state. Performs the destruction of property report after receipt of court order.

Execute official audits of the evidence room(s) and maintains evidence supplies. Orders additional supplies as needed

Assist with the training of new employees on property submissions; procedures regarding temporary storage; CrimeStar property entries; required documentation and property dispositions.

Testifies in court when subpoenaed.

Performs related work as assigned

Maintains Relevant Knowledge Necessary To Perform Essential Job Functions

Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information

Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalent

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a closely related field; experience in Criminal Justice, law enforcement, or Criminal Investigative (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Three years of full-time experience working in Criminal Justice and law enforcement (or closely related) fields.

Knowledge of laws pertaining to evidence and property

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines

Skill in effective oral and written communication

Skill in researching and interpreting complex rules and regulations

Skill in effective oral and written communication

Skill in applying investigative techniques and procedures to assigned cases

Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making

Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback

Ability to work independently

Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment

Ability to provide excellent customer service

Abili y to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)

Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel

Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA

Ability to lift and relocate 50 lbs.

Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 10%

Certifications: Obtain Basic certification as an Evidence Technician

Licensure: Must possess a valid driverand#8217;s licensePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Utilizing Crimestar, Mainframe, Litify, and OAG Policies and Procedures

Knowledge: of laws pertaining to evidence and property

Skill in researching and interpreting complex rules and regulations

Abilities: Multiple task

Certifications: Certified as an Advanced Evidence Technician
