- Obstetrics (pregnancy and childbirth):
Qualifications and roles
- Education: A medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited school and completion of a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology are required.
- Certification: Board certification or eligibility in the specialty is often necessary.
- Seniority: Roles can range from residents who train under supervision to senior consultants who lead teams, manage departments, and mentor junior staff.
- Providing comprehensive care before, during, and after pregnancy.
- Monitoring fetal development through procedures like ultrasounds.
- Managing and assisting in labor and delivery, including performing cesarean sections when necessary.
- Providing postpartum care and advice for new mothers.
- Gynecology (female reproductive health):
- Performing routine and specialized examinations of the female reproductive system.
- Diagnosing and treating conditions, infections, and disorders of the reproductive organs.
- Assisting with family planning, including prescribing birth control and discussing options.
- Surgery:
- Performing a variety of surgical procedures, such as hysterectomies, laparoscopies, and other operations on the female reproductive organs.
- Patient care and education:
- Educating and counseling women on various aspects of their health.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records.
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to coordinate the best care plan.
