Ohio State Athletics Reporter

Overview
Eleven Warriors, where Ohio State fans gather, is seeking a full-time Ohio State athletics reporter to help lead our coverage of Buckeye football, recruiting, basketball and beyond.

This is a digital-first role for someone who understands how modern sports fans consume news, discussion and entertainment online. We are not looking for an old-school print reporter who happens to post links on social media. We are looking for someone who lives and breathes the internet, understands fan communities, has sharp editorial instincts, and wants to help shape where digital sports coverage is headed for one of the largest college sports brands in the country.

The ideal candidate is smart, adaptable, self-driven, collaborative and hungry. They move quickly without sacrificing judgment, work well within a team environment, and understand the difference between chasing clicks and building trust with an audience over time.

Responsibilities

This role will help drive Eleven Warriors’ coverage of Ohio State athletics, with a primary focus on football and football recruiting.

• Covering Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and other athletics news
• Writing a mix of breaking news, analysis, features, interviews and community-driven content
• Contributing across digital platforms including video, social media, video, podcasts, including on-camera appearances, interviews, analysis and other digital content
• Attending games, press conferences, recruiting events and other Ohio State athletics functions
• Helping identify and develop story ideas that resonate with fans and perform across digital platforms
• Monitoring news, social media and emerging conversations around Ohio State athletics
• Participating in collaborative editorial planning with the Eleven Warriors staff
• Engaging with the Eleven Warriors community in a smart, authentic and professional way

Qualifications

We care more about instincts, work ethic and adaptability than traditional résumés, but ideal candidates will have many of the following traits:

• Strong writing and editing ability
• Solid knowledge of Ohio State athletics, especially football
• Strong understanding of digital publishing, social media and how modern sports fans consume content online
• Comfort with video, podcasts, social media and other digital content formats is a plus
• Ability to work quickly in a fast-moving news environment without sacrificing accuracy
• Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently without constant direction
• Comfortable balancing hard news, analysis, humor and fan-focused storytelling
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Willingness to accept feedback and continue improving
• Must live in or be willing to move to Central Ohio
• Must be willing to work nights, weekends and travel as needed

Qualifications

• $44,000–$56,000 annually, depending on experience and skill set
